The Valencian Community (in Valencian Valencian Comunitat) is an independent community of Spain located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula. Bathed by the Mediterranean Sea, it is formed by the provinces of Alicante, Castellón, and Valencia. .
The territory, that agrees mostly with the historical Kingdom of Valencia, has received diverse denominations throughout the time: thus, at the end of century XIX it was known as Valencian Region and as of years 60 has come using the form nonofficial from Valencian Country. Also the terms are used old Kingdom of Valencia and to be brief Valencia, although this last one can take to confusion with the city of Valencia or the province of Valencia.
This beautiful region, Mediterranean par excellence, enjoys more than 500 kilometers of coast and some small barren islands. Its territory occupies, approximately, the included/understood coastal strip between the Ebro rivers and Segura and, by the west and the south, delimits the Iberian System and the Subbéticas Mountain ranges. The brilliance of its celebrations, like the Faults, whose origin is lost in the time, or the Celebrations of Moors and Christians, declared of international interest tourist, and who commemorate the battles which they were so frequent in this coast, are attractive sufficient to visit their latitudes. Its crafts, rich and abundant in manifestations, can be appreciated in important fairs like the Mostra de Artesanía de Altea. The Valencian gastronomy has extended internationally by its plate more known the paella, but we cannot reduce it to this, when, only in plates done with rice, they are counted more than one hundred prescriptions. The kitchen with mountain aromas in its meat pots, chacinas, morteruelos and gazpachos typical in the zone of interior, alternates with the one of the coast of fish and seafood. His world-wide known turrones or their horchata, drink elaborated with crushed chufa, water and sugar, contribute to their gastronomical fame.
Its climate is warm and dry, only altered in autumnal rains, occasionally torrential. Its nature is the own one of the Mediterranean ecosystem, although it presents/displays great resistances according to adapts to as different means as the humedales, dunes, the high mountain, steppes or the forests, reason why vegetation and fauna very are varied. The region counts on eleven Natural Parks of great ecological value, with an important reserve of birds. |
